ATEP Membership

Membership Requirements

To be a member of ATEP you must:  

  • Currently, work in or have retired from a trust, tax, estate planning, or related field
  • Meet eligibility requirements for at least one ATEP Committee  
  • Have an interest in actively participating in the efforts of one or more ATEP Committee(s)

Committee Eligibility Requirements

ATEP's committees are each responsible for a unique aspect furthering the mission of ATEP to improve Alaskan trust and estate law.  Every Member of ATEP must be an actively participating member of one or more committees. Each committee has its own unique eligibility and participation requirements. 


Exploratory Committee

  • Must currently work in or have retired from a trust, tax, estate planning, or related field.


Drafting Committee

  • Must be an attorney licensed to practice law in Alaska, currently working or retired from trust or estate planning practice.


Review Committee

  • Must be an attorney with at least 15 years of experience in trust, estate planning, or tax law practice OR academic with at least 15 years of experience teaching trust or tax law. 
  • Must be currently licensed to practice law in Alaska, or if retired, formerly licensed in Alaska.  (This requirement applies to attorneys, an exception may be made for academics.)


Legislative Committee

  • Must currently work in or have retired from a trust, tax, estate planning, or related field.

Exploratory Committee

The Exploratory Committee is tasked with generating ideas for new legislation and ways to improve existing law. The Exploratory Committee selects ideas that pass along to the Drafting Committee.

Exploratory Committee

The Drafting Committee is tasked with drafting the legislation to achieve the intended enhancement or clarification in the law.


Chair: Abigail O'Connor, JD

Review Committee

Legislative Committee

The Review Committee is comprised of tenured professionals who review the draft legislation and provide critical feedback to the Drafting Committee.  


Chair: Stephen Greer, JD, LLM

Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee works to find a bill sponsor to take the proposed bills through the legislative process.
